Support

Ayumi is a local-first journaling app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

If you need help, have a bug report, or want to request a feature, please contact us:

We typically respond within 3 business days.

Please include the following information in your message:

  • Device model
  • OS version
  • Ayumi app version (shown under Settings > About > Version)
  • A short description of the issue
  • Steps to reproduce the issue, if available
  • Screenshots or screen recordings, if available

Ayumi may request access to the following permissions:

PermissionPurpose
LocationUsed to attach the place where an entry was created and to fetch weather information for that location
MicrophoneUsed to record audio notes for transcription
Photo Library / FilesUsed when attaching images, PDFs, audio, or other files to an entry

You can continue using Ayumi without granting these permissions, but related features may be limited.

Ayumi can automatically fetch weather information when creating a new entry.

This feature is used only when the app has permission to access location and when the user creates a new entry.

Ayumi transcribes voice recordings on your device by default. No API key is needed, and the audio never leaves your device.

You can optionally switch a transcription profile to a cloud provider, using an API key you bring yourself:

ProviderEnginesAudio is sent to
On-device (default)Apple’s speech modelsNowhere — stays on your device
Google Gemini APIGemini, Gemini TranscribeGoogle
MetaMuse Voice TranscribeMeta
xAIGrok Speech to TextxAI
GroqWhisper on GroqCloudGroq
  • Cloud transcription is optional and off until you add a key and choose that provider
  • Audio is sent only to the provider of the profile a recording uses, and only after you stop and submit the recording
  • Live comments are off by default; when you turn them on, they use your Gemini API key during that recording
  • Ayumi does not require AI features for basic journaling

See Voice Recording & Transcription to compare the engines.

Ayumi stores journal entries as Markdown files in a location chosen by the user. Attachments such as images, audio files, and PDFs can be stored alongside entries.

If Ayumi helps you, a review on the App Store helps other people find it. Open Settings > About > Write a Review on the App Store in the app, or write a review on the App Store.

See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle your data.
