Ask Siri About Your Journal
On iOS 27 or later, Siri can read your Ayumi journal: find an entry, open it, and answer questions about what you wrote. Your entries also show up in Spotlight. This is off until you turn it on.
Turn it on
Section titled “Turn it on”- Open Ayumi and go to Settings.
- Under Siri, turn on Let Siri Read Your Journal.
- Ayumi adds your entries to search on your device and shows the progress, then the number of entries in search.
With thousands of entries this takes a few minutes; keep Ayumi open until it finishes. If you leave the app partway, Ayumi picks up where it stopped the next time you open it.
New entries, edits and deletions are kept in step with search from then on.
What to ask
Section titled “What to ask”Include “Ayumi” in your request so Siri looks in your journal rather than in files or the web:
- “Open the entry about the trip to Kyoto in Ayumi.”
- “When did I write about the new job in Ayumi?”
- “In Ayumi, what did I write about Mom last week?”
When more than one entry matches, Siri lists them and you pick one. After Siri finds an entry, you can follow up — for example, “Summarize these.” Choosing an entry opens it in Ayumi.
In Spotlight, search for a word from an entry. Ayumi’s results show the entry’s title, date and its opening lines; tap one to open it.
Save and add to entries
Section titled “Save and add to entries”You can also write to your journal through Siri (iOS 27 or later):
- Save a conversation: after talking something through with Siri, say “Save this to Ayumi.” It becomes a new entry, with the date, place and weather added as usual. This works whether or not Siri can read your journal.
- Add to an entry: with Let Siri Read Your Journal on, ask Siri to add a line to an entry it finds — for example, “Add ‘the cough settled down at night’ to today’s entry in Ayumi.” The text goes at the end of that entry.
Include “Ayumi” here too. “Save this to my journal” on its own may go to another app.
Turn it off
Section titled “Turn it off”Turn off Let Siri Read Your Journal in Settings. Ayumi deletes its search index right away, and Siri and Spotlight stop returning your entries.
Creating entries and recording with Siri and Shortcuts work either way.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”Ayumi adds your entries’ text, dates, places and tags to the search index on your device. Ayumi sends nothing to a server for this. How Siri and Apple Intelligence handle your requests is covered by Apple’s privacy policy. See also Ayumi’s privacy policy.
Your journal folder is separate from this setting. If you keep it in iCloud Drive or another location that Files can see, Siri may find those Markdown files as files, just as it can any other document.
