Privacy Policy

Ayumi respects your privacy.

Ayumi is a local-first journaling app for iOS and macOS. Journal entries are primarily stored under the user’s control as local files or in the user’s own cloud storage location selected within the app.

Ayumi may access the following data only when you choose to use the related features:

  • Microphone audio, when you record an audio note for transcription, or record with Live comments turned on
  • Location, when you allow Ayumi to attach where an entry was written
  • Files and attachments, when you choose to attach images, audio, PDFs, or other files to an entry

Ayumi uses accessed data only to provide app functionality, including:

  • Creating and saving journal entries
  • Attaching contextual metadata such as location and weather
  • Saving attachments alongside entries
  • Converting recorded audio into text

If you use the transcription feature, audio you choose to record may be sent to a third-party transcription service provider to generate text.

Ayumi does not use audio data for advertising or tracking.

Live comments are off by default. If you turn them on before a recording, Ayumi uses your own Gemini API key to send the following to Google (Gemini API) while that recording is in progress, so that AI personas can respond:

  • Microphone audio, streamed for the duration of the recording. For recordings made on Apple Watch, the audio is relayed through your iPhone.
  • The instructions of the participating personas, which may include journal entries or file contents that you chose to insert into them.
  • If written personas use Gemini, a recent portion of the transcript of your speech and recent comments.

Nothing is sent before the recording starts or after it stops, and Live data is not sent to anyone other than Google. Google processes this data under its own terms for the Gemini API. Live comments and the transcript of your speech are saved only on the device that ran Live, separately from your journal, and you can delete them in the app.

Ayumi is designed to be local-first. Journal content and related files are stored locally or in storage locations selected by you.

Ayumi does not require account creation to use its core journaling features.

If you turn on Let Siri Read Your Journal (iOS 27 or later), Ayumi adds your entries’ text, dates, places and tags to the search index on your device so that Siri and Spotlight can find them. Ayumi does not send this data to any server. How Siri and Apple Intelligence handle your requests is covered by Apple’s privacy policy. Turning the setting off deletes Ayumi’s search index.

Ayumi does not sell your personal data.

Ayumi does not share your data with third parties except when necessary to provide a feature you explicitly use, such as audio transcription or Live comments through a third-party API.

Ayumi does not use your data for cross-app tracking or advertising purposes.

You can choose whether to grant access to permissions such as microphone or location. If you deny these permissions, Ayumi will continue to work with reduced functionality for those specific features.

Letting Siri read your journal is off until you turn it on in Ayumi’s settings, and you can turn it off at any time.

The Ayumi landing pages and documentation website use Cloudflare Web Analytics and Google Analytics 4 to understand page visits, referrals, scrolling, and outbound link clicks, including links to the App Store. This website measurement does not access your journal entries, recordings, attachments, or API keys in the Ayumi app.

Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use analytics cookies. Google Analytics uses cookies to measure website usage. Google advertising signals and ad personalization are disabled in our website tag. Our Google Analytics tag is not loaded when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

You can also use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. See Google’s information about data collected by partner sites and Cloudflare Web Analytics for details.
