Ayumi on iPhone Duo
Ayumi adapts to every pose of iPhone Duo. Closed, it’s a quick place to talk or jot something down. Open, the inner display has room for the journal, the page you’re writing and what you wrote on this day in past years. Folded on a table, it becomes a recorder you can glance at while you talk.
On the outer display
Section titled “On the outer display”With iPhone Duo closed, Ayumi follows the system layout for the outer display: the toolbar sits along the side next to the Dynamic Island, so the journal gets the full height. The microphone and compose buttons stay at the bottom of that column, where your thumb is.
While you record, the Live Activity lives in the Dynamic Island beside the camera. Touch and hold it to see the input level, the microphone in use and Stop & Transcribe. See Voice Recording.
Capture without opening the app
Section titled “Capture without opening the app”Two controls start a journal entry from Control Center, the Lock Screen or the Action button — handy when the phone is closed in your hand:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Record | Opens Ayumi and starts recording with your default profile |
| New Entry | Opens Ayumi to a new, empty entry |
To add one, edit Control Center or the Lock Screen and search for Ayumi, or choose Controls for the Action button in Settings.
Folded like a laptop: the tabletop recorder
Section titled “Folded like a laptop: the tabletop recorder”Set iPhone Duo on a table half open, like a small laptop, while you record. Ayumi splits the recording screen at the fold:
- The upright half shows that you’re recording, the microphone in use, the elapsed time and an input level meter — and, with Live on, the latest comments from your personas.
- The half lying flat holds the controls: Stop Recording, Ask Another Persona while Live is running, and Hide.
It appears on its own when you start recording in this pose, whether from the recorder or a shortcut. Hide takes you back to the full recorder; the tabletop view stays out of the way until you unfold the phone.
Folded like a book, the same screen puts the status on one side of the fold and the controls on the other, so nothing sits across the crease.
On the inner display
Section titled “On the inner display”On This Day beside the editor
Section titled “On This Day beside the editor”When you write on the inner display in landscape, the past sits next to the page: everything you wrote on the same date in earlier years, newest year first, and anything you already wrote earlier today. It’s the five-year-diary view of Time Travel, narrowed to the day you’re writing about.
The panel follows the date of the entry, so editing an old entry shows that day’s past instead. If you fold the phone partway, the editor and the panel move to either side of the fold.
Open an entry in its own window
Section titled “Open an entry in its own window”Touch and hold an entry in the journal and choose Open in New Window to read it beside the journal — or beside another entry. Close it with the window controls like any other window.
